Tobacco Cessation

FREE tobacco cessation program now available to UGA students, UGA employees, and the Athens community!

stop smoking Is tobacco leaving a bad taste in your mouth? Are you tired of worrying about potential health problems, the cost of cigarettes, or just wondering if you have enough cigarettes to last through the day? Do what millions of others have already done, and stop using tobacco! The students of UGA's College of Pharmacy are offering a program to help those who want to stop using tobacco. And best of all, it is absolutely 100% FREE! This program is open to anyone who is willing to quit smoking or chewing tobacco.

As of October 1, 2014, UGA has become a TOBACCO FREE campus.  This includes cigarettes, chewing tobacco, and e-cigarettes.  If you need help quitting, registration for the Spring 2016 Beat the Pack program is now open!

Program Description:

The program was adapted from Pfizer's "Beat the Pack" smoking cessation program and can be used for both cigarettes and chewing tobacco. Sessions are held once weekly for six weeks. Each six-week session will focus on tobacco-use issues, such as health risks, reasons to quit, cessation aids, coping with the urges to use tobacco, handling relapse, and maintenance. Registrants will receive student conducted individual and group counseling at each meeting.  You are not expected to quit the first day of the program.  In fact, we suggest a quit date 2-3 weeks into the program.  Please note that while we will discuss your options for cessation aids, we do not offer medications through the program.

Meeting Details:

The program is open to UGA employees, students, and the general public. The meetings will be held weekly on Tuesday evenings 5:30 p.m.–6:45 p.m. at the Firehouse #7 Community Room (2350 Barnett Shoals Rd). Free Parking is available.  Dates for the Fall 2017 program are August 22, 29 and September 5, 12, 19, and 26.
