Dr. Marie A. Chisholm-Burns ’92, ’93 was presented with the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists Board of Directors’ Distinguished Leadership Award at the rMidyear meeting held recently in Las Vegas. The Executive Vice President and Provost at Oregon Health and Science University, Dr. Chisholm-Burns received the award for her life-long commitment to excellence in pharmacy practice leadership and academic pharmacy.
Dr. Chisholm-Burns’ distinguished career began in 1994 at the UGA College of Pharmacy, where she rose in the ranks from Assistant Professor to tenured Professor. She continued her career trajectory with stops at the University of Arizona College of Pharmacy (2007-2012), where she was a Professor and Department Head, and the University of Tennessee (2012-2022), where she served as Dean and Distinguished Professor. She assumed the position in Oregon this July. Among her many state and national leadership roles, she was president of the Georgia Society of Health-System Pharmacists, and she served as the founding chair and now past chair of the ASHP’s new section of Pharmacy Educators.
According to the ASHP program announcing her award, “Dr. Chisholm-Burns is a nationally-renowned prolific researcher, educator, and leader in health disparities, healthcare access, social justice, and the scholarship of teaching. For almost 30 years, her work has embraced transformational learning opportunities that create and foster diverse and equitable academic and healthcare environments and encourage dialogue and innovation between students, patients, and providers.”
