The University of Georgia College of Pharmacy and the American Pharmacists Association Academy of Student Pharmacists (APhA-ASP) will present the 17th annual Pharmtoberfest Health Fair on Thursday, October 24, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on the D.W. Brooks Mall, in front of the College of Pharmacy and adjacent to the Science Learning Center. Sponsored by Kroger, the free event will include flu shots, health screenings, health education, food, games, and a special visit from Hairy Dawg.
Open to all UGA faculty, staff, and students, as well as the local community, Pharmtoberfest celebrates American Pharmacists Month and will include screenings for high blood pressure, high blood sugar, bone marrow donors, HIV, and body mass index. In addition, booths from student health groups across campus will provide information on breast cancer awareness, diabetes, high blood pressure, immunizations, sexually transmitted diseases, alcohol education, over-the-counter medication safety, safe drug disposal, and more.
Flu shots will be available through the University Health Center. Interested participants should bring their health insurance card, as the cost is fully covered by most plans. Please note that we are unable to accept Kaiser plans. For uninsured patients, the cost is $50.
“Along with health screenings, health promotions, and flu shots, we also will have some fun carnival-themed games, popcorn, cotton candy, and Chick-fil-A,” said Rebecca Bruning, president of the college’s chapter of APhA-ASP. “Of course, we are super excited that Hairy Dawg will join us again this year! We encourage the entire university community to get healthy and have some fun at this year’s Pharmtoberfest.”
Parking is available in UGA’s South Campus Deck and Carlton Street Deck.
