Ben Bryan is a new Client Support Services Professional in the Information and Instructional Technology (IIT) Department at the College of Pharmacy.
A native of Oglethorpe County, Ben worked with internal and external clients in UGA’s Enterprise Information Technology Services (EITS) for 12 years before joining CoP this February. Ben said that in his new role, he will be responsible for, “…anything that has an operating system and a power cord – AV systems, PCs, printers, and other technology as needed.”
Ben remarked that his interest in technology came at an early age. “I was fortunate that my father taught me a lot of about electrical work (i.e.: resistors, capacitors, and electronic repairs) when I was young. In addition, we got a used PC from a family member, and to play games on it, I had to learn how it worked. So basically, I am self-taught. This experience allowed me to handle IT concerns and PC issues in the classrooms at my middle and high schools. Eventually, my hobby turned into a career – I had a job working for a PC surplus company, and I had access to parts that I could use to build operating systems.”
Why did Ben choose the College of Pharmacy as his next career stop? “David (Kwiatkowski, CoP IT Technical Professional) made me do it!” he said of his current IIT colleague, who he worked with at UGA EITS many years ago. “I was looking for a change of scenery—a place to keep using my skills to benefit the university. David encouraged me to apply for this position, and here I am!”
Living in Winterville with his dog, two cats, and some chickens, Ben enjoys plants and gardening; building and fixing things; fishing; and most any outdoor activity. “I also like to make hot sauce and baked goods!
Ben is in Room 0149B of the IIT Suite, which is on the first floor of the Wilson Building. He can be reached at [email protected].
