Scott Pegan named Interim Associate Head of the Department of Pharmaceutical and Biomedical Sciences

Dr. Scott Pegan has been named Interim Associate Head of the Department of Pharmaceutical and Biomedical Sciences.   He joined the department in 2014, where he serves as Professor and Director of  the UGA Center for Drug Discovery.  Dr. Pegan will coordinate the department’s rapidly growing portfolio of academic programs for PharmD., B.S., and graduate students.

Dr. Pegan’s current research focuses on the regulation of the human immune system, the discovery of new therapeutics for nerve and pesticide agent poisoning, and the discovery of new antibiotics for use against tuberculosis. He is a U.S. Army Operation Iraqi Freedom combat veteran, a U.S. Army Reserve Major, and a Biochemist for the United States Medical Research Institute of Chemical Defense. Serving as the University Council Executive Committee Chair from 2017-18 and as Chair of the University System of Georgia Faculty Council from 2018-19, Dr. Pegan possesses a broad understanding of UGA schools, colleges, and other units. He applied his university leadership and military experience most recently while facilitating the College’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic this past spring.
