On Saturday, April 18, 2026, pharmacists and pharmacy students from the University of Georgia College of Pharmacy partnered with Zion Hill Baptist Church, located at 6175 South Campbellton Road in Atlanta, Georgia, for a community-centered Health Fair focused on youth engagement, education, and mentorship. Under the leadership of Pastor Rev. Dr. Aaron L. Parker, Ph.D., tenure professor of Philosophy and Religion at Morehouse College, the event brought together healthcare professionals, educators, families, and youth for a meaningful day of learning and inspiration.
Representing the UGA College of Pharmacy were pharmacists and student pharmacists committed to demonstrating the impact pharmacists can make beyond the walls of a classroom or pharmacy. Dr. Deborah Elder and Mr. Todd Felton were instrumental in mentoring and supporting the initiative, helping create an environment where young people could explore healthcare careers through direct engagement and interactive activities.
One of the most impactful components of the Health Fair was the DIY Hand Sanitizer Compounding Experience, where youth participants learned how pharmacists compound products with precision, accuracy, and patient safety in mind. Students practiced measuring ingredients, using personal protective equipment, and understanding the science behind proper sanitation and infection prevention.
The event also emphasized mentorship and exposure to higher education opportunities. Through conversations with pharmacists, healthcare professionals, and UGA College of Pharmacy student pharmacists, youth participants were encouraged to pursue excellence in science, healthcare, and leadership. The presence of UGA College of Pharmacy students reflected the institution’s commitment to service, education, and preparing future healthcare leaders who are dedicated to strengthening communities.
This Health Fair highlighted the power of collaboration between faith communities and healthcare professionals. Together, Zion Hill Baptist Church and the University of Georgia College of Pharmacy created a memorable experience that empowered youth, inspired future aspirations, and reinforced why UGA College of Pharmacy continues to lead through service, mentorship, and community engagement.
