Goal

To provide a formal training program for pharmacy residents and practitioners to gain knowledge and demonstrate effectiveness in the areas of teaching, leadership, and scholarship and foster development of skills that create effective practitioners and educators.

Intended audience

The program is designed primarily for current PGY1 and PGY2 residents in training programs throughout the state of Georgia. Other interested individuals who do not plan to complete the certificate process are welcome to attend some or all seminars and other activities.

Activities

A certificate of completion will be awarded to all participants who successfully complete each of the three components of the program:

  1. Discussion Groups
  • Held virtually during the first half of the residency year
  • Topics: Precepting, Presentation/lecture objectives, Assessment (quiz/exam) question writing, interpreting feedback, teaching/presentation methods and strategies, applying statistical analysis
  • Required attendance
  1. Teaching and Assessment
  • PGY1
    • Classroom teaching
    • Small group teaching activities
  • PGY2
    • Classroom teaching, including developing teaching and assessment materials
    • Small group teaching 
  1. Teaching Portfolio
    1. Table contents or bookmarked PDF organized by separate section for each teaching activity
    2. Current CV
    3. Teaching philosophy
    4. Materials for each teaching activity (e.g., classroom, experiential, professional presentation)
    5. Evaluations for each activity (e.g., self-eval, preceptors eval, audience evals)
    6. Self-reflection (1 page summary)

Evaluations

All participants will be asked to complete an evaluation of each Discussion group topic and an overall program evaluation.

Certificate

Participants who successfully complete the program will receive a certificate of completion from the University of Georgia College of Pharmacy. Certificates will not be awarded to those who do not complete the required assignments.

Optional:

Residents have the option of obtaining a Postdoctoral Fellow designation within the College of Pharmacy.
