Twenty-five PharmD students, along with one faculty member, were inducted into CoP’s prestigious Phi Lambda Sigma, the international pharmacy leadership society, on Saturday, February 7.
The ceremony included a keynote address delivered by Dr. Susan Smith, Clinical Associate Professor and the PLS Chapter Co-Advisor. Ashlee Greene from Perry, GA, who currently is a student at the Savannah campus, received the “P4 of the Year” award, the chapter’s highest honor. Dr. Danielle Vitale, PLS Chapter Co-Advisor, was inducted with the new student members.
Founded at Auburn University in 1965, PLS has as its core mission to recognize and promote leadership excellence among pharmacy students, faculty, and alumni. According to PLS President Sergio Alejo, P3, “Membership is selective – students are chosen based on demonstrated leadership, not just grades, indicating the value of involvement, initiative, service, and impact. It recognizes students who go above and beyond the classroom, whether through professional organizations, community service, advocacy, research, or mentoring.”

Added Alejo, “PLS is a nationally recognized honor, respected by residency programs, employers, and faculty. It validates that a student is not only academically capable but also trusted as a leader and role model. Being selected signals long-term potential in advancing the pharmacy profession. It is an honor to welcome these new members into our chapter.”
