Dr. Nirdosh Jagota ’92 Is Keynote Speaker at BSPS Convocation

Sharing with faculty, staff, and students that he felt “…like I have come home….,” Dr. Nirdosh Jagota was the keynote speaker for the Bachelor of Science in Pharmaceutical Sciences Convocation on May 12th in the David Chu Auditorium. In 1992, Dr. Jagota earned his PhD in Pharmaceutical Sciences from the Pharmaceutical and Biomedical Sciences Department at CoP.  Currently, he is the Vice President of Product Quality and Sciences at Amgen – one of the world’s leading biotechnology companies that transforms new ideas and discoveries into medicines for patients with serious illnesses.

UGA Bulldog 100 Class of 2023 Honored

Congratulations to PharmDawg alumni named to the 2023 UGA Bulldog 100, which recognizes the 100 fastest-growing, alumni-owned businesses from UGA:  29th Crawford and Breazeale Drug Company (Ben Ross ’08, Samir Shah ’08, Naveed Tharwani ’11), 33rd Golden Isles Pharmacy (Matt Donato ’14), 86th Poole’s Pharmacy (Sharon Sherrer ’79, Thomas Sherrer BBA ’10), and 94th PharmD on Demand (Michael Azzolin ’02). Congratulations to these PharmDawg stars!


McCurdy Appointed Associate Dean at UF, Speaks to U.N.

Congratulations to Dr. Christopher McCurdy ‘98, who was recently appointed Associate Dean for Faculty Development at the University of Florida College of Pharmacy. Dr. McCurdy is an international expert in the field of kratom and just presented “Kratom:  The Science Speaks” at the United Nations Commission on Narcotic Drugs. In addition, by virtue of his designation as the 2022 Distinguished Alumnus at UGA’s College of Pharmacy, Dr. McCurdy carried the Gonfalon, the College’s banner, at CoP’s PharmD Commencement Ceremony on May 6th. Kudos to Dr. McCurdy on his phenomenal work!


Carter Visits Athens Campus

U.S. Representative Buddy Carter ‘80 visited the Athens campus earlier this spring and met with a select group of students and faculty, including Dean Kelly Smith ’92, ’93, to discuss current trends in Washington, pharmacy legislation, and general issues and concerns within the profession. Students enjoyed the opportunity to meet with the congressman and ask questions.


NCPA Fly In
PharmDawgs Lead at NCPA Fly-In

PharmDawgs, including alumni and students, were well-represented at the National Community Pharmacists Association’s Congressional Pharmacy Fly-In 2023 in Washington, D.C. last month. Along with NCPA President Hugh Chancy ’88, an impressive contingent of GPhA-AIP members were on Capitol Hill to advocate for independent pharmacies and the patients they serve. It’s inspiring to see leaders making a difference for pharmacy in Georgia and at the U.S. Capitol.


PharmDawgs Spotted in Orlando

Sung Soo Kim ‘21, Zayd Ahmad ‘21, and Emily Plauche ‘21 reconnected at the “Making a Difference in Infectious Diseases” meeting in Orlando, FL recently. Each were recipients of the MAD-ID travel grant and presented their ID PGY-2 research at the meeting. Way to go, Class of 2021. PharmDawgs in the Phield!


Christian’s Leadership Featured

Congratulations to Dr. Kisha Christian ’04, owner of Neighborhood Pharmacy in the U.S. Virgin Islands, on her amazing story of resilience featured in the recently published anthology “Passion and Purpose – 21 Inspiring Stories from Women in the Virgin Islands on Business, Leadership, and Life.”


Milton Serves as Kappa Psi Grand Regent

A big shout out to Dr. Jason Milton ’08, a neurosurgeon with the U.S. Navy, on leading the helm as Grand Regent of the national Kappa Psi Pharmaceutical Fraternity. We are PharmDawg proud!


Brinson Reappointed to GBP

Mike Brinson ‘74 recently was reappointed to the Georgia Board of Pharmacy by Governor Brian Kemp in December 2022 for a five-year term. Brinson serves as the Pharmacy Director of Central State Hospital and is a member of the Georgia Pharmacy Association and Georgia Society of Health-System Pharmacists. He also is the pharmacy representative for Georgia on the Minnesota Multistate Contracting Alliance for Pharmacy.
