PharmD Class of 2023 Preps for Commencement May 6

The 136-member PharmD Class of 2023 began their final trek towards Commencement with a celebratory reception on Friday, April 28 at the UGA Special Collections Libraries.

Classmates entered the school in 2019 filled with anticipation for four years of intensive immersion into pharmacy studies – on campus! While the COVID pandemic could have caused a massive derailment, the Class of ’23 persevered and produced outstanding results. Statistics about the class as they graduate include:

  • Average GPA of graduating class: 3.49
  • 134 spring graduates, 2 summer graduates
  • 60% of students graduating with honors (GPA ≥3.6)
  • Two students recognized as First Honor graduates (GPA 4.0)
  • 74% secured employment or other postgraduate opportunities PRIOR to graduation
    • Residencies: 60 graduates
    • Residency Match Rate: 91%
    • Fellowships: 4 graduates

Other statistics about the Class of 2023:

  • 96% Georgia residents
  • 58% completed pre-pharmacy work at UGA
  • 15% of first-generation college students

During the celebration on Friday, Class Superlatives were announced.  Voted on by members of the class, the winners are:

  • Front of the Class: Logan Smith
  • Future Dean of a CoP: Sarah Adam
  • Most CoP Spirit: Brooks Patterson
  • Most Likely to Become Famous: Spencer Escoe
  • Most Likely to Become a Professor in a CoP: Essilvo Sulejmani
  • Most Likely to Brighten Someone’s Day: Alexis Bevill and Mimi Martinez
  • Most Likely to Finish an Exam First: Alex Waldron
  • Most Phashionable: Parth Patel
  • Question Queen or King: Brittny Nutt
  • Workaholic: Edith Ford

Write-in Superlative winners are:

  • Best Laugh: Nathan Hanzelka
  • Best Notetaker/Most Likely to be Paying Attention: Kaitlin Blotske
  • Class Clown: Chandler Allen
  • Most Called-on in Class: Savannah Mace
  • Most Likely to Change Clinical Practice: Tierra Jackson
  • Most Likely to Help Others: Christy Roberts

Commencement for the Class of 2023 will be held Saturday, May 6, at 3 pm at the Classic Center in Downtown Athens.
