Learning is year-round at College of Pharmacy

Until a few weeks ago, the College was buzzing with activity.  The air was filled with anticipation and excitement as faculty, staff, and students prepared for the end of a busy spring semester.  Now, it is summertime at the College of Pharmacy; the sound of silence is palpable. Most of our students are away, gaining valuable work and life experiences at internships, fellowships, work programs, volunteer projects, and much more. Faculty and staff have prepared them for this part of their journey.  Learning is a year-round process when you’re a PharmDawg!

Let me assure you – the work of the College continues at the same level of intensity and commitment as when students are in our midst!  Temporarily, the “buzz of activity” has been replaced with the quiet din of faculty and staff working diligently to plan for the upcoming academic year. The FY24 budget is being developed; curricular plans for 2023-2024 are being finalized; faculty and graduate students are working tirelessly on research that will change the health and wellbeing of citizens in our communities; strategic planning for the future of our College is taking place; and research is being presented at key pharmacy and scientific conferences. An important focus in the summertime is to assure that when our undergraduate and professional students return for classes in August, they are set up to succeed – now and in the future.

This issue of UGA Script focuses on post-graduation news and activities, along with exciting changes taking place at the College. For starters, I am pleased to share that Kate O’Reilly will join us as the new Director of Development, overseeing all fundraising, stewardship, and alumni programs. Kate is no stranger to UGA, having worked in various capacities at the University for more than 17 years. Read her story within the e-pages of this issue. If you’re attending the Georgia Pharmacy Association Summer Convention, you’ll have a chance to “meet and greet” her!  You’ll also learn about our phenomenal 91% residency match rate for the PharmD Class of 2023, along with recent awards and honors presented to faculty and students.

Enjoy your summer! May this time provide you with quiet moments to reflect on an exciting future ahead!
