Melody Sheffield, Pharm.D., named new Interim Dean at College’s Albany campus

Melody Clay Sheffield has been named the new Interim Assistant Dean for Professional Affairs at the College of Pharmacy’s extended campus in Albany. She will continue in her duties as Campus Director for Pharmacy Practice Experiences in Southwest Georgia, a position she has held since 2012.

A native of Lee County, Georgia, Melody is a PharmDawg alumna, graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy in 1984 and a Doctor of Pharmacy in 2002. She has been a pharmacist in various healthcare organizations in the Southwest Georgia and metro Atlanta areas throughout her career, including her current, long-standing practice at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital in Albany. Since 2002, she has worked in various capacities in the Division of Experience Programs in Southwest Georgia. Additionally, she served as chair of the Curriculum Committee during the recent curricular revision. With interest in pharmacy practice, geriatrics and experiential education, Melody is an author of several papers and publications in these areas. She is a board-certified pharmacotherapy specialist and member of the Georgia Society of Health-System Pharmacists Board of Directors.

Melody and her husband, Jim, live in Albany where Jim is a licensed professional counselor. They are the parents of a 2019 UGA graduate, Clay, who will attend dental school this fall. Along with family activities, Melody enjoys singing in her church choir and stargazing.
